I found this exceedingly useful chart, courtesy of Replogle Globes. It allowed me to date my globe to between 1982 and 1984. It's very cool to see how the world has changed, and to brush up on your geography at the same time.

Great info on dating globes! We have a bit of a globe collection going on at our house and it is fun to see when they are from!
