Meet the Members of Vintage Market Team- Jacqueline of HatchedInFrance

1- Tell us a bit about you?

I am an English lady in my mid 40's, married with 4 children. We left England for sunnier climates in 2005 and moved to the USA living in both Florida and Texas! We are now living in the South of France, closer to the grand parents and enjoying a simpler way of life along with all its challenges that go with moving countries, several times! I discovered Etsy whilst living in the USA and started by selling my handmade but once I moved to France my love of vintage was soon rekindled with all the flea markets close at hand.

2- What do you sell?

I am most interested in home wares. I have an innate nesting instinct like many women and where ever we live I have always try to make it a home. Whilst in England I was always interested in used items! I felt a freshly painted room with a new sofa still needed a piece of vintage to ground it!

3- Favorite decade for vintage?

I don't think I have a favorite decade. I like the glamorous clothing from the 1930's but also the mod era of the 1960's . I love the music from the 1980's and I have a very eclectic taste for our home combining vintage with travel ! Work that one out !

4- Favorite vintage item you own? Or regret having sold in the past?

A 1950's mantle clock which I bought at a 'Antique Roadshow". It has a distinct "tick tock" and has made it through our travels. It always makes the house sound like home!

5- Favorite item you are currently selling? And why?

1950's 60s alarm clocks ! I like the way they look whether they work or not! I think they remind me of when I was a girl?

6- Best advice for newbies?

I still consider myself a newbie on Etsy and at selling vintage! My advice is to listen, read the forums and ACT on it. Get involved right at the start and take tiny steps. Ignore your fears of failure, be honest and others will enjoy reading about your struggles to succeed. You will gain strength from their support.

7- Favorite web sites? Or blogs?

Vintage seller blogs and expats living in France. This one http://lillalotta-blog.blogspot.com/ because she also has 5 kids !

8- Favorite movies? Or TV?

The "Quiet Man" because it reminds me of my mum and dad. "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A good year". Surprisingly!

9- Favorite music?

The 1980's when I was the disco queen !

10- Favorite books? Authors?

I don't have any time to read novels and so I prefer reference books-sewing, home decor, France, cooking, selling online !!!!! I love to learn.

11- Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Well, if you had said 6 years ago that I would be living in France I would have thought you crazy! ! I hope I will be still married, living in France and running a successful business !

12- What else should we know about you/ your business?

As a family we are facing many challenges, moving countries, children growing up and a World in recession! It has inspired me to diversify and start trading my vintage. I started having requests to swap my things and although I was not totally comfortable with the traditional process, I found it fun and inexpensive. So much so, with the help of hubbie I have designed a new website solely for swapping/trading. It is community based and has a unique points system. It is only for online sellers and is another way to promote my shop and others. I am going to be putting a lot of energy into that new venture to get it off the ground.
