Tuesday Tip ~ Week 20

Here is a super easy tip!

If you have paper stuck on a wood surface here is a sure way to remove it.

Pour mineral oil on the paper and let soak awhile, overnight is best.

After the oil soaks into the paper rub with a soft cloth.

This will remove the paper and not harm the furniture finish.

6- Best advice for newbis.
I would just say keep listing and relisting and don't forget to Twitter! That is probably the best advice that I was ever given and it is true the more you work at it the more views you will get. I can't promise sales but if you twitter you will definetly get views.

Friday Member Feature ~ Week 3

This weeks featured member is Susan from MyAtticsTreasures.
1- Tell us a bit about yourself?
Married 21 years, with (2) children ranging in age from 9 years of age to 20 years old. Have had a love for antiques/vintage since an early age. I always enjoyed looking at pictures at my great aunts house & hearing the stories that went with them. She married in 1934 & the bedroom set that they had was an art deco piece. That was my first love affair with the old!
2- What do you sell?
I sell a little bit of everything. When I tell people what I sell, I say, everything from Pyrex to lingerie!
3- Favorite decade for vintage?
I get very excited when I find things from the 1940's into the early 1960's. No particular time.
4- Favorite vintage item you own? Or regret having sold in the past?
My Fire King jadite!
5- Favorite item you are currently selling? And why?
My favorite item in my shop that I am selling is, the Jack and Jill nursery lamp by Irmi from the 1960's. They were made here in the US, but hava a German style of wood carving or craftmanship that you can't get today.
6- Best advice for newbies?
Don't get discouraged! Sales don't always come at first & we all know they sometimes won't come everyday. ask questions & do your research on your items!
7- Favorite web sites? Or blogs?
I don't have a favorite web site. I am on so many for so many different things for research. The ones that I do favorite don't have anything to do with my business!
8- Favorite movies? Or TV?
I have so many favorite movies from the 1930's all they way up to now, that I couldn't just say one or two! But, I do love, Mae West, Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis and so on!
9- Favorite music?
I grew up in the entertainment business and have a love for all music! From classical, opera to the rap music of today. I do however currently favor country music. From Johhny Cash to Brad Paisley.
10- Favorite books? Authors?
I read cookbooks like others would read a novel. Julia Child will always be my favorite in that catagory. I also have a love for F. Scott Fitzgerald. Love the time period that his stories took place in.
11- Wher do you see yourself in ten years?
I hop to open a physical location in the next year. I have very unique plans that would include my vintage business with another concept. I hopw that will take me to another level of success.
12- What elso should we know about you/your business?
I work veryhard at keeping my shop current. I had no idea when I opened my shop almost a year ago that it would be such a hard thing to do. Many things that I have learned along the way, I wished I had known at the start.

Friday Member Feature ~ Week 2

This week on Vintage Market facebook page RetroTrend featured DaisyToad.

1- Tell us a bit about yourself?

I am a work at home mom with 3 children 12, 3, 1.

2- What do you sell?
I sell a very eclectic range of items in my shop-I think it was once described as neo-Victorian with a funky retro twist and a dash of prom.

3- Favorite decade for vintage?
The 1930s-1940s fascinate me, mainly because of all the hardships and changes the people of those time endures, but it was also a time of simplicity and family. As for style wise-I'm not partial to a decade, I buy what I like.

4- Favorite vintage item you own? Or regret having sold in the past?
I've always regretted selling a small travel alarm clock that was encrusted with rhinestones. I had just gotten married and was desperate for money and sold it at a garage sale. I am constatly on the lookout for that clock.
The favorite thing I won that's a tough one but I'd have to say my Grandpa's bronzed baby shoes that my Grandma gave me for my birthday last year-the same Grandma gave my daughters first birthday, the childrens teapot that her Grandmother gave her on her 100th birthday back when my Grandma was 7.

5-Favorite item you are currently selling? And why?
I've been slacking quite a bit at updating my shop, so a lot of my favorite items aren't yet listed but I'm always partial to dog figurines, tackle or tool boxes and luggage.
I take that back the 2 of my favorite items in my shop are the arless Kewpie doll and the turquoise glass figual decanter. I'm actually decorating with those right now.

6- Best advice for newbies?
Selling Vintage is an ever evolving job. It takes a lot of time, patience, footwork and research, but if it is what you love to do it is all worth it.

7- Favorite web sites? Or blogs?
I love Junk Revolution and Apartment Therapy.

8- Favorite movies? Or TV?
I love the movie Simply Irresistible with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tank Girl with Lori Petty, Edward Scissorhands with Johnny Depp, TV wise I love Army Wives and anything on the History Channel!

9- Favorite music?
I love Jeremy Camp, Skillet, Switchfoot and the like-I also like Lori Berkner for the kids!

10- Favorite books? Authors?
I don't really take much time to read although I love it. The last book I read was called Work @ Home and would recommend it to anyone transitioning or having done so in the past.

11- Where do you see yourself in ten years?
In ten years I will have a daughter in college, a son and daughter in high school. I hope to have a thriving business and I pray God still allows for me to be doing what I love while creating a nurturing enviroment for my family.

12- What else should we know about you/your business?
In October DaisyToad's Vintage is opening a brick and mortar store as well as the online store. A new websit is in the works that will direct you to the many facets of DaisyToad!

Here is an oldie but a goodie.
For water marks on wood tabletops rub mayonnaise into the water mark.
Let stand for about an hour or so.
